Blastocyst Culture
Advanced embryo culture for improved success rates.
About This Treatment
Blastocyst culture extends embryo development in the laboratory to day 5 or day 6, allowing embryologists to identify the embryos with the highest implantation potential. By growing embryos to this advanced stage, we can transfer fewer embryos while maintaining excellent pregnancy rates, and select the best candidates for genetic testing or cryopreservation.
Treatment Process
- 1
Fertilization
Eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory through IVF or ICSI to create embryos for culture.
- 2
Early Embryo Culture
Embryos are monitored in a controlled incubator environment during the first few days of development.
- 3
Extended Culture to Day 5–6
Embryos continue developing to the blastocyst stage, allowing natural selection of the most viable candidates.
- 4
Embryo Assessment
Embryologists grade blastocyst quality based on expansion, inner cell mass, and trophectoderm appearance.
- 5
Transfer or Cryopreservation
The best-quality blastocyst is selected for fresh transfer or vitrified for a future frozen embryo transfer cycle.
Benefits & Advantages
- Higher implantation rates compared to day 3 transfer
- Natural selection of the most viable embryos
- Fewer embryos transferred, reducing multiple pregnancy risk
- Compatible with preimplantation genetic testing
- Improved synchronization with the uterine lining
- Option for frozen embryo transfer cycles
